A quick and easy way to make sure you buy the right size shoes is to measure your feet at home. Having an accurate foot measurement can make a big difference in how comfortable and well-fitting your shoes are, whether you’re looking for sneakers, dress shoes, or boots. In this article, we’ll show you how to measure your foot size at home if you’re by yourself so you can find the right pair of shoes with confidence.

  1. Gather Your Materials – You will need a few things before you can start to measure your foot size. A piece of paper, a pen or pencil, a ruler or measuring tape, and a wall are all you need.
  2. Trace Your Foot – The next step is to draw a line around your foot on the piece of paper. To do this, stand with your heel against the wall and your toes pointing forward. Put the piece of paper on the ground in front of you and use your foot to draw an outline on the paper. Make sure to trace all of your foot’s edges, including your toes and heel.
Note, if you have someone who can help measure your feet, you can skip step 2. Instead, have them measure your foot with a soft tape using the directions below.
  3. Measure the length of your foot – Once you’ve drawn the shape of your foot, use a ruler or soft measuring tape to find out how far from the heel to the tip of your longest toe that shape is. This will tell you how many inches long your foot is. It’s important to measure your longest toe because that will give you the most accurate size of your foot.
  4. Measure the width of your foot – To find out how wide your foot is, measure the distance across the widest part of your foot. This is usually on the ball of your foot, just below your toes. Once you know how wide your foot is, you can look at the shoe manufacturer’s sizing chart to find out what your foot width size is.
  5. Other considerations – Besides the length and width of your foot, there are a few other things you should think about when trying to figure out your foot size. For example, if you have a high arch or a wide forefoot, you may need to buy shoes that are wider or have more arch support. Also, if you have foot problems like bunions or hammertoes, you may need to buy shoes with a wider toe box or more depth to accommodate these problems.
  6. Try on shoes – After determining your feet size, order your shoes to make sure they fit well. When trying on shoes, make sure you’re wearing the socks you’ll be wearing with them. Stand up and move around in the shoes to make sure they fit well and are comfortable. When trying on shoes, be sure to walk on carpet or other clean non-marring surface in case you need to return the shoes.
