Incorporating a variety of different activities into your lifestyle is essential to help keep your body fit and healthy.

Choosing the correct shoe for each of your activities is an essential part of setting yourself up for success and giving your body the support, it needs.

Different movements require different types of support in different areas, so it’s important to know what you’re looking for in a shoe when engaging in an activity.

EXAMPLE OF DIFFERENT SITUATION FOR DIFFERENT TYPE OF FOOTWEAR:

Trail Running Shoes

Rugged terrain and unexpected conditions make trail running an adventurous experience.

But also, mean that you need to be sure to wear the proper footwear when heading out on the trail.

If most of your runs will be on soft, muddy surfaces, you want to look for a longer “lug” length (the individual treads of the shoe) to help prevent slips and slides.

For runs primarily on hardpack or rocky terrain, a shorter lug length works well, as it will give you more stability/traction on a hard surface.

Be cautious about choosing waterproof shoes.

Their waterproof membranes mean highly reduced breathability, which could cause excess moisture build-up inside your shoe, leading to blisters.

Unless you plan to be running regularly in muddy or snowy trails, it’s best to avoid waterproof shoes.

Cross-Training Shoes

Cross-training is a term that generally incorporates a variety of athletic activities that don’t sport-specific.

Most cardio-based exercises, including the treadmill, elliptical m Zumba, kickboxing, etc. fall into the cross-training category.

When choosing a cross-training shoe, you want to ensure you select a shoe that supports both vertical and lateral movement, so, your foot will be adequately supported during your workouts.

Your cross-training shoes should provide support for your foot and ankle during side to side movements, along with adequate traction to help avoids slipping.

Your shoes should fit snugly so your foot won’t slide around inside your shoes.

Be sure to leave adequate space in the front of your shoe (about a thumb’s width) to avoid damage to your toes and toenails from repeated impact.

Road Running Shoes

While road running shoes may LOOK like all other sneakers, it’s essential to ensure that the shoes you choose for running offer your feet the support and features they need for the repetitive motion distance running involves.

When choosing a shoe, you should consider size gender, arch type, mileage, and cushioning.

You want to ensure the shoe you choose is lightweight enough for your needs, but that it also offers adequate support.

You may even want to consider using a more cushioned shoe on your rest/short-run days, and a lower profile shoe for those days you plan on doing long-distance runs.

Remember that as you run, your feet will swell, so it may be necessary to size up 1/2 to full size, depending on the length of your runs.

I highly recommend visiting a running store for a gait evaluation and for help getting adequately fitted for running shoes.

Make sure that the style and footwear line you choose well gives you the support, balance,  Orthopedic Shoesdepth in the toe and heel counter, wiggle room inside the shoe, and no bi-lateral movement to the shoe.

 The Running Shoe World

Unfortunately, we have a hunch that you just spent a lot of money on an expensive pair of high-end running shoes expecting them to solve your problem and end your pain.

 Did they???

We’re not surprised to hear they didn’t, but you might be scratching your head as to why.

Now let’s talk in more detail about the ten reasons that make orthopedic/therapeutic footwear the better choice for the health of your feet:

  1. Orthopedic/Therapeutic shoes have the strongest mid-support in the shoe business.  They are preventing bilateral movement and a midsection depth that gives you support. Plus, the maximum room available in the footwear world.
  1. They also have the most solid heel counter in the business, working to prevent the bi-lateral movement of your foot.
  1. In an orthopedic/therapeutic shoe, you’ll also find a taller/fuller toe box creating more space and wiggle room for your toes.

4)   Extended bottoms give you the fullest width and support, more than any other shoe company out there.

5)    They’re a lightweight shoe causing less wear and tear on your feet, without skimping on support.

6)    Removable Arch support, or customized insert, create a more advanced support system for your foot.

The next time you buy a pair of shoes makes sure they have a removable footbed.

With a removable footbed, you’ll be able to use your custom-made inserts.

Which offers far more support and comfort than a standard factory footbed.

Approximately eighty-five percent of athletic shoes have zero support in the factory-made inserts.

It’s beneficial to your foot to use an insert explicitly molded for your foot!

But you cannot stack a custom insert on top of a factory-made footbed.

Ensure the shoe’s footbed is removable before making a purchase.

7)   Women’s styles have a 3 to 1 combination for better fit and support for your heel.

8)   A fuller forefront in the construction of the footwear creates a more comfortable, supportive fit.

9)   The deeper heel counters promote better balance and support of the heel.

10)  Leather lining creates more flexibility and breathability for the foot.
