Incorporating a variety of different activities into your lifestyle is essential to help keep your body fit and healthy.
Choosing the correct shoe for each of your activities is an essential part of setting yourself up for success and giving your body the support, it needs.
Different movements require different types of support in different areas, so it’s important to know what you’re looking for in a shoe when engaging in an activity.

Trail Running Shoes
Rugged terrain and unexpected conditions make trail running an adventurous experience.

Cross-training is a term that generally incorporates a variety of athletic activities that don’t sport-specific.
Most cardio-based exercises, including the treadmill, elliptical m Zumba, kickboxing, etc. fall into the cross-training category.
When choosing a cross-training shoe, you want to ensure you select a shoe that supports both vertical and lateral movement, so, your foot will be adequately supported during your workouts.
Your cross-training shoes should provide support for your foot and ankle during side to side movements, along with adequate traction to help avoids slipping.
Your shoes should fit snugly so your foot won’t slide around inside your shoes.
Be sure to leave adequate space in the front of your shoe (about a thumb’s width) to avoid damage to your toes and toenails from repeated impact.
Road Running Shoes
While road running shoes may LOOK like all other sneakers, it’s essential to ensure that the shoes you choose for running offer your feet the support and features they need for the repetitive motion distance running involves.
When choosing a shoe, you should consider size gender, arch type, mileage, and cushioning.
You may even want to consider using a more cushioned shoe on your rest/short-run days, and a lower profile shoe for those days you plan on doing long-distance runs.
Remember that as you run, your feet will swell, so it may be necessary to size up 1/2 to full size, depending on the length of your runs.
I highly recommend visiting a running store for a gait evaluation and for help getting adequately fitted for running shoes.
