However, cement construction is not ideal for environments with heavy chemical exposure, as it can break down the bond between the EVA and rubber.

Direct Attach/Injection: Durability for Tough Environments

For more demanding work conditions, Hoss offers two variations of direct attach or injection construction:

  • Injected Welt: The upper is bonded directly to a PU midsole, with a rubber outsole applied afterwards. This creates an extremely strong bond that holds up well in oil fields or petrochemical environments.
  • Dual Density Polyurethane: The boot is formed using a two-step injection process, with a PU midsole and either a PU or rubber outsole. This double-shot technique produces a boot with a telltale seam at the heel and toe.

Both direct attach methods result in highly durable, slip-resistant boots that can withstand harsh chemicals and high heat.

Goodyear Welt: The Gold Standard for Heavy Duty

For the toughest jobs, Hoss turns to Goodyear welt construction. This process involves:

  • Sewing a leather welt to the upper
  • Attaching a “blocker sole” made of rubber or PU to the welt
  • Securing the outsole to the blocker with both stitching and adhesive

Goodyear welting is known for its exceptional durability and is a top choice for heavy duty construction, outdoor work, and other demanding industries. The tradeoff is that Goodyear welted boots tend to be heavier and stiffer than other constructions.
