When managing a foot injury or foot pain, it can feel challenging to stay on top of a consistent workout routine. Most typical workouts heavily involve the use of your feet, which is not a possibility when managing an injury. Luckily, there are many effective forms of workouts that can be done without putting added stress or pressure on the feet.

Swimming

Swimming is a great way to get in cardiovascular exercise with very little impact. If you are managing foot pain or a lower body injury, swimming is an excellent way to remain active without aggravating your injury. Swim is a total body workout that will help to keep you fit, even when you can’t use your feet.

Pilates

Pilates provides a total body workout that improves both strength and flexibility. Mat work is a great way to exercise without any impact on your feet. Pilates can help to strengthen and tone muscles, in addition to correcting any imbalances that may occur as a result of your injury.

Crunches

Crunches are a great way to tone your core, and they have zero impact on your feet. Be sure to activate your core and support your neck when performing crunches, to avoid a neck injury. Improving your core strength will help to keep you better balanced if you’re managing a long term foot injury.

Weight Training

Weight training is such an important form of exercise. It helps to keep your muscles fit and strong, and helps to prevent bone loss as we age. When you’re managing a lower body or foot injury, you can easily stay consistent with upper body training. Focus on the muscles groups that allow you to remain seated or apply little to no pressure to your feet, including chest, shoulders, biceps, triceps, back, abdominals, outer thigh, inner thigh, hamstrings and quadriceps.

Although it can be tempted to workout through the pain, it’s best to give your feet a rest if they are experiencing pain or an injury. Giving them the time they need to heal properly will certainly pay off with faster recovery and healing!
